Nepalese couple rescued from drowning off Limassol
Lifeguards and members of the public rescued a Nepalese couple after the man got into difficulty while swimming near Akti Olympion.

Limassol, Cyprus. A Nepalese couple were rescued from drowning off Limassol on Sunday after a 25-year-old man got into difficulty while attempting to swim back to shore from rocks in the Akti Olympion area.
The man, described as a weak swimmer with limited stamina, began to sink and grabbed his wife in panic, placing both in danger.
Rescue operation
According to the Limassol lifeguard unit, the incident occurred at around 5.30pm. Lifeguards monitoring the bathing area had identified the man as a weak swimmer in a potentially dangerous location and responded immediately with a rescue board.
Members of the public, who were about 20 metres away, also went to assist the couple.
“The lifeguards safely pulled the 25-year-old onto the rescue board,” the unit said.
The neighbouring Lem 15 lifeguard station, equipped with a jet ski, was also alerted.
First aid
The lifeguard unit said the swift intervention of lifeguards and capable swimmers who assisted the couple prevented an incident that “could have resulted in multiple casualties”.
After being brought ashore, the 25-year-old was examined by lifeguards and given first aid. He did not require further medical treatment and was released without an ambulance being needed.
