Nicosia, Cyprus. The new pension reform is expected to be the focus of a Labour Advisory Board meeting with Labour Minister Marinos Mousiouttas on Wednesday morning.

Mousiouttas said the government aims to secure the broadest possible convergence of views before submitting the bill to Parliament in September.

Government proposal

“The goal is, as soon as possible, for opinions to converge as much as possible. If there are differences, we will try to limit or even eliminate them,” Mousiouttas said.

During the meeting, the ministry is expected to present the government’s proposal in detail and outline amendments made to the draft bill.

Implementation timetable

Mousiouttas said the aim is for the bill to be submitted to Parliament in September and implemented from January 2027.

Under the proposed timetable, pensioners would see changes to their pensions following the first payment under the new system on February 1.

Further consultations

Meetings are expected to be held more regularly after the session to address questions, receive suggestions and assess whether they can be implemented.

Social partners are expected to present further concerns and positions at the next Labour Advisory Board session on August 28.
