Nicosia, Cyprus. Approximately 5,000 passengers scheduled to arrive in or depart from Cyprus on Tuesday and Wednesday were affected by delays and cancellations caused by Britain’s air traffic control failure, Hermes Airports said.

The situation remained developing on Wednesday, with some flights cancelled on Tuesday rescheduled and further disruptions still uncertain.

Flight cancellations and delays

The information board at Larnaca Airport on Wednesday morning showed at least two afternoon cancellations involving arrivals from and departures to London Heathrow.

At least three flights from London to Larnaca and three departures from Larnaca to London were cancelled, including one flight scheduled for Wednesday morning.

At Paphos Airport, three arrivals from London and one from Manchester were cancelled, along with corresponding departures to those destinations.

UK disruption

Flights to and from Cyprus were affected on Tuesday after a failure in the UK air traffic control system caused widespread cancellations and delays at airports across Britain.

Flights from British airports resumed on Wednesday morning, although airports warned that operations would take time to return to normal after disruption left several aircraft at different locations.

More than 400 flights were cancelled across Britain on Tuesday and a further 600 were delayed. London Heathrow Airport reported 367 delays and 100 cancellations.
