Nicosia, Cyprus. More than a tonne of cables belonging to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) was seized during nationwide inspections of scrap metal trading premises, police said on Thursday.


Joint operation

The operation involved police officers, the environment department, the labour inspection department, the EAC and other state agencies.

A total of 20 premises were inspected. EAC officials confirmed that the seized cables belonged to the authority.

Reported offences

Three businesses were reported for other offences, including operating without the required waste management or scrap metal trading permits.

Police also arrested one person for residing in Cyprus without the necessary residence documents. Two employers were fined €4,000 each for employing people without declaring their employment.
