A new addition has been made to Paphos’s shopping map. In the run-up to Christmas, residents and visitors to the island were treated to the Kings Avenue Mall shopping and entertainment complex.
The complex is situated in the heart of the city’s tourist district, at the junction of Apostle Paul Street and Tombs of the Kings Street (Corner of Ap. Pavlou and Tombs of the Kings, 2).
In terms of its concept and scale, the mall differs significantly from shopping centres in other cities across Cyprus. Whilst in Nicosia or Limassol you have to travel considerable distances across the city to go shopping, in Paphos you can indulge in a spot of retail therapy just a stone’s throw from the city centre. This is convenient for everyone, and for tourists in particular — few people on holiday would turn down the chance to have a browse in the shops.
Kings Avenue Mall fully lives up to its name. It was created on a grand scale, with a claim to originality. You can feel the love and care for visitors in everything here. And if theatre begins with the coat rack, then for me personally, shopping in Cyprus begins with the car park.
At the new mall, you won’t have to search long for a space in the underground car park. There are 1,250 parking spaces available for visitors, and the comfortable parking experience makes the whole visit a pleasure. Guests take the lift up to the next level, where they’re greeted by the delightful design of the spacious atriums.
And there they are – the numerous little shops. You’ll want to look at everything, touch it, try it on, and bombard the shop assistants with questions. Interestingly, many of the shops have Russian-speaking staff.
If you’re feeling a little tired from walking around the mall, you can relax for a while in the rest areas with comfortable seating, whilst watching the ever-flowing water.
There’s also a rest area on the grounds adjacent to the centre. The centre’s management has also paid attention to the landscaping. Very soon, the flowers, shrubs and trees will have grown and will delight visitors with their lush greenery and bright colours. It’ll be hard to resist taking a photo as a souvenir.
I don’t think there’s any point in going into detail about what’s inside the mall. It’s more interesting to come and see for yourself that, just like in Greece, it has everything. Kings Avenue Mall is home to over 115 well-known and popular boutiques and shops. Alongside fashion giants such as ZARA, Bershka, Accessorize, Aldo, Mango, Tommy Hilfiger and Lacoste, products from Cypriot manufacturers are also on display. And every shop features only the latest collections. Tourists can claim tax-free refunds everywhere, and pay using either cash or credit cards.
What’s more, Kings Avenue Mall is the first shopping centre in Cyprus to house the popular Jumbo supermarket, specialising in children’s and home goods. Here, every visitor – even those with no intention of spending money – is bound to pick up a little something special. All the more so when there are only a few days left until Christmas, and it’s impossible to take your eyes off the collection of New Year’s accessories.
In short, the centre’s concept means you no longer have to travel to another town in search of the items you need.
To be honest, whilst wandering around the centre, I lost track of time and suddenly realised it would be a good idea to think about groceries for the family. And there it is — the Carrefour supermarket on the ground floor.
At Kings Avenue Mall, you can not only go shopping but also spend time comfortably with family and friends. Whilst you’re enjoying a spot of shopping, the children will have a brilliant time on the rides in the play area. And you can pop into the cinema to catch world premieres – the Cineplex, well-known in other cities across Cyprus, has arrived in Paphos. Perhaps one day they’ll even start showing Russian films.
And to round things off, as they say, it’s always nice to ‘satisfy your sweet tooth’. Personally, once I’ve chosen something tasty – and there’s a selection from twelve popular food chains here – I’ll settle down at a table on the little balcony. As you take in the surroundings of ancient Paphos, you’ll definitely want to plan your next visit to the ‘royal complex’ so as not to miss the season of discounts and sales.
