Cyprus labour accidents fall 7.2 per cent in 2025

Nicosia, Cyprus. Labour accidents decreased by 7.2 per cent in 2025 compared with 2024, while the total decline since 2017 reached 55.3 per cent, the Labour Inspection Department said on Wednesday.

Sector trends

The largest reduction in the accident index was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, down 15.2 per cent. Transport and storage followed with a decrease of 8.8 per cent, while hotels and restaurants recorded a 7.2 per cent decline.

Cyprus remained below the overall European average, the department said.

Manufacturing recorded the highest number of accidents in 2025, increasing by 11.7 per cent compared with 2024. Construction followed with an increase of 3.9 per cent.

Falls remain leading cause

Falls remained the main cause of workplace accidents in Cyprus, accounting for 31.4 per cent of incidents across all sectors.

In construction, falls accounted for 38.7 per cent of accidents.

Prevention measures

The department said the figures highlighted the need to further develop and implement integrated procedures, collective protection measures and prevention policies.

It referred to a targeted awareness campaign conducted through media and social networks since March 2026.

The Labour Ministry said its ultimate objective was to eliminate workplace accidents and that future actions would be planned and implemented based on occupational accident analyses.
