Nicosia, Cyprus. Police have seized 323 kilograms of cannabis and hash and 81kg of cocaine since the beginning of the year, with cocaine seizures more than doubling compared with the same period last year.


Seizure figures

Figures published for January to August last year showed that police had seized about 613kg of cannabis and 39.5kg of cocaine.

Police have previously said the increase in drug seizures has been accompanied by intensified operations.

Recent cases

In Nicosia, officers searched the home of a 33-year-old man and found more than 2kg of cannabis and more than 250g of cocaine hidden on the property.

In Limassol, police stopped a 21-year-old man driving a car without registration plates. Officers found four packages containing 46g of cannabis and about 3.5g of cocaine.

They also seized €1,850 in cash, precision scales and disposable gloves from the vehicle.

Arrests in Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Paphos

In Larnaca, police seized 342g of cannabis and hash and 5g of cocaine. A 20-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with the case, while a 22-year-old man had already been detained.

Five further arrests involving suspected drug possession were made in Ayia Napa and Paphos.
