Kolkata, India. At least nine people, including a child, were killed in a fire at a hotel in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata on Wednesday, police said. Around 30 people were evacuated safely, while at least six injured people were receiving hospital treatment, according to local media.


Fire response

The fire broke out at about 2:50 a.m. local time on the second floor of the hotel building, located in a congested area of central Kolkata known for budget accommodation and restaurants.

A senior police officer told Reuters that the blaze was brought under control within an hour.
