Paphos, Cyprus. A 35-year-old man was arrested shortly before midnight on Wednesday in connection with attacks on delivery riders in Paphos that left five people injured, police said on Thursday. Police are searching for other people believed to have been involved.

Initial attack

The incident began at about 8.40pm on Tuesday, when a 26-year-old delivery rider went to the Moutallos neighbourhood in central Paphos to deliver a food order.

Police said the recipient refused to pay and, together with three other people, attacked the rider, including by throwing a rock at him.

The rider informed colleagues, who went to the area.

Further violence and theft

Shortly afterwards, about 10 men, some reportedly carrying metal objects, arrived and attacked the delivery riders. Their motorcycles were damaged and thrown to the ground, police said.

Later, four members of the group reportedly travelled by vehicle to another part of Paphos, where they found and attacked a 22-year-old delivery rider. Police said they stole his mobile phone and an amount of cash before leaving the scene.

Investigation continues

Five delivery riders reported injuries and were taken to Paphos General Hospital. Four were discharged, while one remained in hospital on Thursday.

The arrested man is expected to appear before Paphos District Court later on Thursday. The police investigation is continuing.
