EU construction declines as Cyprus highlights projects, tourism ranking and digital transformation
Eurostat reported a June decline in EU construction output, while Cyprus cited project demand, Larnaca’s tourism ranking and digital policy discussions.

Nicosia, Cyprus. Construction activity across the European Union declined sharply in June, according to Eurostat data, while Cyprus entered the period with a substantial project pipeline and rising housing demand.
EU construction output
Seasonally adjusted construction production fell by 1.3 per cent in the euro area and 1.0 per cent across the EU in June compared with May, according to Eurostat’s first estimate.
The figures reversed increases recorded in May, when construction production rose by 0.2 per cent in the euro area and 0.1 per cent in the EU.
Compared with June of the previous year, production was 0.7 per cent lower in the euro area, while the EU recorded a marginal annual increase of 0.2 per cent.
In the euro area, building construction declined by 0.9 per cent during the month, civil engineering fell by 1.4 per cent and specialised construction activities decreased by 1.8 per cent.
Larnaca tourism ranking
Larnaca was ranked third among southern European destinations for an autumn shoulder-season getaway in the 2026 Shoulder Season Index compiled by UK travel insurance comparison company Quotezone.
The index examined sunshine, temperatures, rainfall and accommodation costs. Larnaca ranked behind Antalya in Turkey and Tenerife in the Canary Islands, while Crete in Greece and Malta completed the top five.
The ranking comes as almost half of travellers appear increasingly willing to shift their main holidays away from the peak summer months amid concerns over extreme heat and rising holiday costs.
