Larnaca, Cyprus. The Larnaca district local government organisation (EOA) announced a €300,000 tender on Friday for the design of flood protection works for homes in Larnaca and Aradippou.

Flood protection study

The tender includes a study to design flood defences for Kalo Chorio and the preparation of documentation required for construction works to proceed.

The contract, valued at €300,000 plus VAT, will be funded by the government and is expected to take 12 months to complete after it is signed.

Drainage and environmental planning

The study will examine water flows in the area and develop a drainage system to collect rainwater. It will also prepare the technical and environmental documentation needed before construction begins.

Response to previous flooding

Officials said the study was required because of previous flooding in the Larnaca district, particularly in the area near the Kamares aqueduct.

Once completed, the study is expected to provide a cohesive plan for the construction of flood protection works.
