Service hub opens in Kato Pyrgos Tillyria for remote-area residents
A new service hub in Kato Pyrgos Tillyria aims to improve local access to Nicosia district government services.

Kato Pyrgos, Cyprus. A new service hub has opened in Kato Pyrgos Tillyria to bring public services closer to residents of remote areas. The centre was inaugurated on Friday.
Local access to services
Nicosia district government (EOA) president Constantinos Yiorkadjis said the hub was deliberately staffed by people living in the area.
“Geographical location cannot be an obstacle to equal access,” he said, adding that the Kato Pyrgos centre forms part of local administration reforms intended to provide easier access to services.
Water and sewerage projects
Yiorkadjis said the Nicosia EOA had spent €200,000 on repairing and upgrading the area’s water supply network.
Works were also carried out to clean the local reservoir so that stored water could be used for irrigation, he said.
A sewerage system for Kato Pyrgos is also planned, with a €10 million tender due to be launched for its construction.
Community response
Head of the Tillyria complex of communities and Kato Pyrgos community president Nicos Kleanthous described the hub as a major development and a project of “respect to the people of the area”.
He said initiatives that reduce the need to travel, save time and provide immediate access to Nicosia EOA services offered significant support to residents.
Kleanthous said the opening sent the message that development and service provision should not be limited to major urban areas.
