An agreement with the EOA, implemented from March 2026, allows specified quantities of cesspit sewage to be received through a manhole on the network just before the Moni plant.
The amount deposited is limited to 150 cubic metres per day, compared with the 30,000 cubic metres handled by the Moni plant.
Michail said the arrangement allows the contractor to continue upgrading and operating Vati without sending cesspit sewage to the EOA.
Concerns over waste disposal
In addition to cesspit cleaning trucks from Vati offloading into a nearby manhole, industrial waste is suspected of being dumped into one of about 20,000 manholes in the district.
