A tourist brought the West Nile Virus to Cyprus

A traveler has brought the West Nile virus to Cyprus. The diagnosis has already been confirmed by the doctors. However, there is no reason for panic, because the infected are usually recovering form the virus quite easily. Only 1 out of 5 can develop a fever.

The infected man, who arrived to Cyprus, only got the first symptoms after 5 weeks. The Healthcare service took all necessary measure and the patient is currently recovering.

The virus is usually transmitted by mosquitoes and ticks, as well as birds and rodents. The West Nile Fever has a clear seasonal feature – from June to October, when the circumstances for development are the most favorable.
