Akinci plans to resolve the Cyprus problem in Geneva

Мустафа Акинчи

In his New Year message, the leader of Turkish-Cypriots Mustafa Akinci said that regardless of agreements in certain key aspects, the two sides did not come to the consensus regarding the resolution of the Cyprus problem.

“Certain matters are apparently making the situation worse” – Akinci believes and further adds that this is the reason why “the Southern side and Greece still did not make a decision about the two-zone Federal Republic with two communities and this is why they voted “No”.”

Nevertheless he further stated that the two sides will try to protect their rights in Geneva and to find the strength to come to a fair and possible decision.

The special UN advisor on Cyprus Mr. Espen Barth Eide said that the year 2017 will be the year when Cyprios will “flip this page in the history”.
