Akrotiri parents seek temporary school relocation after RAF base drone attack fears

Akrotiri, Cyprus. The parents’ association in Akrotiri on Monday requested the temporary relocation of the community’s nursery and primary schools, citing fears after last week’s drone attack on the nearby Royal Air Force base and ongoing security alarms.

Relocation request and distance learning concerns

In a letter sent on Monday morning, the association said distance learning was difficult because many parents were working and could not supervise or support their children at home.

Ministry response and possible announcement

Education ministry sources told the Cyprus News Agency that efforts were under way to find a solution, with a possible announcement expected later in the day.

Parents’ meeting and local coordination

Head of the primary school parents’ association Paulina Argyrou said parents met on Friday and decided to send the letter in cooperation with the Kourion School Board and the local municipality.

Keeping children together during temporary move

Argyrou said it would be preferable to keep the children together in a temporary location, as separating them from their teachers and friends could cause anxiety.

Schools to remain closed on Monday

Earlier on Friday, the education ministry confirmed that Akrotiri’s primary school, as well as the nursery school and environmental education centre, will remain closed on Monday.

What solution do you think should be prioritised for students while security concerns continue?
