Akrotiri, Cyprus. The nursery and primary schools in Akrotiri and the village’s environmental education centre will reopen on Monday, the education ministry said on Friday. The sites had been closed since a drone strike hit the adjacent British air force base on March 2.
Closures and temporary arrangements
All three locations have remained closed since the early-hours March 2 drone strike, which was described as involving an Iranian-made drone. Lessons this week were held instead in the Limassol district village of Kolossi.
Evacuation order lifted
The interior ministry announced on Friday that the evacuation order issued for the village after the strike had ended. Following that decision, the village’s schools are set to resume normal operations.
