Animal Party urges end to violence-linked traditions ahead of Tsiknopempti

Athens, Greece. The Animal Party said on Wednesday that normalising violence in the name of tradition must stop ahead of Tsiknopempti, when large quantities of meat are consumed before Lent in the Greek Orthodox calendar.

Call to reconsider traditions

The Animal Party said some traditions should be reconsidered, stating that it does not celebrate death for entertainment and does not accept joy being linked to the slaughtering of animals. It added that society advances when consciousness evolves rather than repeating habits without thought.

Promotion of a vegan alternative

Instead of consuming meat, the party suggested adopting a vegan diet, saying it benefits the body, the environment and conscience.

Arguments cited and appeal for personal choices

The Animal Party said that animals are sentient beings, that overconsumption of meat is linked to serious health problems, and that the planet is under pressure due to dietary choices. It called on everyone to try a different approach, saying that major change begins with a small personal decision.

Will you consider changing your Tsiknopempti meal choices this year?
