Athens, Greece. More than 1,300 protesters marched to the U.S. and Israeli embassies in Athens on Sunday to demonstrate against military strikes in Iran.
March and slogans
Most of the marchers were affiliated with the Greek Communist Party and carried banners and placards reading “Hands off Iran” and “close Souda base.”
Security and police presence
The protest came a day after Greece tightened security at the Souda naval base on Crete, a key facility for the United States in the eastern Mediterranean. Rows of blue police buses cordoned off the U.S. and Israeli embassies as the crowds arrived.
Estimated turnout
Police sources estimated the number of protesters at more than 1,300.
