Dhekelia, Cyprus. British bases police officers met Cypriot Justice Minister Costas Fytiris this week to discuss tackling organised crime, crossing points and strengthening cooperation.

Meeting in Dhekelia

The Dhekelia meeting included representatives from the bases’ police and administration. Discussions focused on issues such as crossing point coordination and inter-authority liaison.

Statements from officials

Chief constable Steve Jupp said the minister’s presence showed determination to keep citizens safe and expressed hope for closer collaboration.

The bases chief officer, Fleur Thomas, said the meeting laid the foundations for a productive and positive relationship going forward. She said that having taken over the role in December, it was good to engage with Fytiris for the first time.

Thomas said the bases were grateful for the early meeting and the positive interaction, and said they looked forward to continuing to build on the relationship.

Next steps

Both parties agreed to maintain close contact on organised crime and operational coordination.
