Chlorakas, Cyprus. A British father accused of negligent supervision after his three-year-old son fell to his death from a fourth-floor window at a seafront hotel has been granted permission to travel to the United Kingdom for the child’s funeral.
The Paphos district court temporarily lifted restrictions on the 37-year-old, subject to an additional €10,000 guarantee and his return to Cyprus by September 14.
Court conditions
The court ordered the return of the father’s confiscated travel documents to enable his departure. He is expected to leave Cyprus on Wednesday.
He must return by September 14 and remain available to the authorities during his stay in Cyprus.
Case adjourned
The case was adjourned until September 17, when the 37-year-old is expected to enter a plea to the charges connected with his son’s death.
Defence lawyer Alexandros Alexandrou said on Friday that his immediate priority was obtaining permission for his client to attend the funeral. He declined to discuss the circumstances of the child’s death or whether an investigation had been conducted at the hotel.
The child died after falling from the fourth floor of the luxury hotel in the Paphos district village of Chlorakas last month. Monday’s ruling is the first time the father has been permitted to leave Cyprus since the death.
