Christodoulides highlights Cyprus-Bahrain economic potential as Paphos tourism board sets 2026 priorities

Nicosia, Cyprus. President Nikos Christodoulides said on Monday that Cyprus and Bahrain can still unlock substantial economic opportunities during an address at the first Cyprus-Bahrain Business Forum. The same day, the Paphos Regional Tourism Board outlined plans for 2026 aimed at upgrading tourism and supporting sustainable development.

Cyprus-Bahrain Business Forum and bilateral cooperation

Christodoulides said the two countries used the business forum as a springboard to strengthen business ties during his official visit to Bahrain.

Addressing business representatives, he described the forum as a first step in tapping what he called largely untapped potential between the two countries. He said this potential is shaped by their strategic locations, economic dynamism, and shared role as bridges between regions and markets.

Christodoulides linked bilateral cooperation to Cyprus’ upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, saying relations between the EU and the Gulf will be a clear priority.

Paphos tourism board outlines 2026 priorities

The Paphos Regional Tourism Board (Etap) said its planning for 2026 is built around “a set of clearly defined priorities,” with particular emphasis on air connectivity, according to executive manager Nasos Hadjigeorgiou in comments to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

Hadjigeorgiou said the approach focuses on “the diversification of air connectivity and the stabilisation of flights throughout the year,” alongside further development of thematic tourism markets.

He listed sports tourism, wedding tourism, wellness tourism, agrotourism and the 55+ segment as “key tools for reducing seasonality and broadening demand”.

Etap also said it is focusing on upgrading visitor experiences through “the enhancement of eco-trails, walking tourism and interactive activities,” while supporting existing events and attracting new sports and cultural initiatives to strengthen Paphos’ year-round appeal.
