Nicosia, Cyprus. The Cyprus Information Technology Enterprises Association (CITEA) met with India’s High Commissioner to Cyprus Shri Manish to discuss areas of mutual interest, focusing on deeper cooperation in technology and innovation.
Focus on bilateral cooperation
According to an announcement from the association, the meeting focused on how to deepen cooperation between Cyprus and India in the fields of technology and innovation.
Business mission to India in May
A key part of the discussion was a business mission to India scheduled for May, in which CITEA president George Malekkos is due to take part. The visit is aimed at strengthening business ties, exploring new opportunities for the association’s members, and promoting Cyprus as an emerging technology hub in the region.
Human capital shortage and potential measures
The talks also addressed the long-standing shortage of specialised human capital facing companies in the technology sector. The two sides examined possible ways to address the challenge, including closer cooperation with India to attract talent, measures to facilitate employment procedures for highly skilled professionals, and the development of joint education and training initiatives.
Statements and next steps
Malekkos said India is one of the world’s leading centres for technology and innovation and that stronger ties could create opportunities for Cypriot businesses. He described the upcoming business mission as an important step, saying it would further reinforce links between the two ecosystems.
CITEA said it was satisfied with what it described as a positive and constructive discussion and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting initiatives that support and strengthen Cyprus’ technology ecosystem. The association also said it remains focused on backing its members through targeted initiatives, solutions and collaborations that respond to the sector’s changing challenges, with the aim of strengthening competitiveness and supporting sustainable growth.
