Conservation works at Apostolos Andreas Monastery in Rizokarpaso remain on schedule, officials say

Rizokarpaso, Cyprus. Conservation works at the Apostolos Andreas Monastery are progressing on schedule, officials said after an on-site inspection by project partners on Thursday.

On-site inspection and project assessment

Representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and members of the advisory body of the technical committee on cultural heritage visited the site during March to assess ongoing restoration activities. Discussions with technical experts confirmed that the works are advancing steadily and remain aligned with the project’s timeline and requirements.

Compliance with conservation standards

In a statement, officials said the inspection focused on evaluating construction progress and ensuring compliance with conservation standards. “Activities are advancing steadily and remain fully aligned with the project schedule and technical requirements,” they said.

Landmark preservation and monitoring procedures

The Apostolos Andreas Monastery, located in the Karpas peninsula, is described as one of the most significant religious and cultural landmarks on the island. Restoration efforts aim to preserve its structural integrity while maintaining its historical and architectural character.

Thursday’s inspection was part of regular monitoring procedures intended to ensure the works meet international standards. Technical teams continue to oversee the process, focusing on preservation quality and adherence to agreed timelines.

Cooperation framework

The project reflects ongoing cooperation between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot stakeholders under the Technical Committee, with international support aimed at safeguarding shared cultural heritage.
