Nicosia, Cyprus. Constantia Open Air Cinema will host the 27th Summer Film Marathon from July 15 to September 13, with screenings scheduled every week from Wednesday to Sunday. The event is organised through a collaboration between the deputy ministry of culture and Theatro Ena.
Opening film
The event will open on Wednesday, July 15 with the historical documentary Memory of a Sweet Homeland, written and directed by Stavros Papageorgiou.
The film presents the story of Greek refugees from Asia Minor who sought refuge in Cyprus following the Asia Minor Catastrophe of 1922.
International programme
This year’s programme includes award-winning productions from around the world that have received international recognition and appeared at major film festivals.
Among the featured titles is Hamnet, written and directed by Chloé Zhao and based on Maggie O’Farrell’s novel of the same name. The film won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2026, the Golden Globe for Best Picture and Best Actress, received eight Academy Award nominations and was named one of the American Film Institute’s Top 10 Films of the Year for 2025.
Other films in the programme include It Was Just an Accident, written and directed by Jafar Panahi, Perfect Days directed by Wim Wenders, The Cut directed by Fatih Akin, and the documentary Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk directed by Sepideh Farsi, about daily life in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Greek, Cypriot and partner festival entries
The festival will also screen films from Greece and Cyprus, including Kapodistiras, written and directed by Yannis Smaragdis, and Smaragda: I Got Thick Skin and I Can’t Jump, written and directed by Emilios Avraam.
Smaragda: I Got Thick Skin and I Can’t Jump won Best Cypriot Film and Best Performance at the Cyprus Film Days International Festival in 2025.
In collaboration with Queer Wave Film Festival, the Summer Film Marathon will also present the Norwegian film Love (Kjærlighet), directed by Dag Johan Haugerud.

Screenings will take place at Constantia Open Air Cinema in Nicosia from Wednesday to Sunday at 9pm.
