Limassol, Cyprus. A multicultural crochet installation that opened over the weekend at Limassol Castle’s Cyprus Medieval Museum is continuing, with organisers highlighting mutual understanding between communities in Cyprus. The exhibition will remain open until the end of the year.
Installation and project
The installation is part of the Open Air Crochet Installations project run by the bicommunal initiative Peace2Peace, also known as Connective Threads.
Titled A Thousand Hands, A Thousand Stories: Common Ground, the display features thousands of hand-crafted flowers arranged on walls. The flowers were created over a six-month period by women of different ethnicities across Cyprus.
Theme and inspiration
According to organisers, the flowers are inspired by the archaeology and common cultural heritage of Cyprus and are intended to highlight mutual trust and cooperation.
Curator Elena Daniel said each flower reflects the person who made it and that the overall installation shows how connections are built gradually through repeated encounters.
Opening and support
The installation was funded by the antiquities department and curated by Elena Daniel. Its opening formed part of the European Archaeology Days 2026, held from Friday to Sunday across dozens of European countries.
