Nicosia, Cyprus. Police said cryptocurrency worth €107,000 was stolen from an individual who was tricked into downloading an application under the pretext of a job interview. The complaint was filed with the Criminal Investigation Department at police headquarters.
Complaint and alleged method
Police said the case involves a fake job advertisement posted on social media. The victim responded on March 12 to a job listing for a company advertised on a social media platform.
Application download and theft
According to police, the perpetrators instructed the individual to download a specific application onto their computer, saying it was required for a video interview. After the application was installed, the victim discovered that cryptocurrency wallets had been compromised and digital assets worth €107,000 had been stolen.
Investigation
Authorities are investigating whether malicious software was installed through the application, enabling suspects to access the victim’s electronic wallets and carry out the theft. The case is being investigated by the financial crime unit of the CID in Nicosia.
