Limassol, Cyprus. The customs department confiscated duty-free tobacco products from a residence in Limassol on Sunday after receiving information from the police drug squad. A 52-year-old man from Syria was arrested and later released after authorities accepted a €1,000 out-of-court settlement.
Residence search and seizure
The customs department said on Monday that agents searched the residence and found nine cartons containing 200 cigarettes each, six packets containing 20 cigarettes each, two packages of hookah tobacco weighing 250g each, and three packages of rolling tobacco weighing 50g each.
Case outcome
The tobacco products were confiscated and will undergo the prescribed destruction procedure. The suspect was released after his proposal for an out-of-court settlement of the case was accepted.
