Cypriot bank deposits fall by €123.1 million in April as loan growth slows

Nicosia, Cyprus. Deposits in the Cypriot banking system recorded a net decrease of €123.1 million in April 2026, reversing a net increase of €426.8 million in March, according to data released this week by the Central Bank of Cyprus.

Total deposits reached €57.6 billion at the end of April, while loans posted a net increase of €40.5 million, slower than the €528.1 million rise recorded in the previous month.

Deposits reverse monthly gain

The annual growth rate of deposits slowed to 4.5 per cent in April from 5.6 per cent in March.

According to the Central Bank of Cyprus, deposits from Cypriot residents increased by €30.1 million during the month.

Households made the largest positive contribution, with deposits rising by €122.6 million, while deposits from non-financial corporations increased by €63 million.

However, a €155.5 million decline in deposits from other domestic sectors offset those gains and weighed on the overall monthly figure.

Loan growth eases

Loans continued to rise in April, although at a much slower pace than in March.

Total loans recorded a net increase of €40.5 million, compared with a rise of €528.1 million in the previous month.

The total balance of loans stood at €27.8 billion at the end of April, while the annual growth rate eased to 12 per cent from 12.6 per cent in March.
