Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded a 2.0 per cent rate of severe material and social deprivation among people aged 15 to 29 in 2025, placing it among the 10 best-performing countries in the European Union, according to Eurostat figures.
Cyprus among lowest in the EU
The Eurostat data showed Cyprus was among 10 EU countries where the share of young people facing severe material and social deprivation remained below 3.0 per cent.
The other countries in this group were Croatia, Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Austria, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Portugal.
EU average unchanged
Across the European Union, the rate of severe material and social deprivation among young people aged 15 to 29 stood at 5.8 per cent in 2025, unchanged from 2024.
This was slightly below the rate for the total population, which was 6.3 per cent.
Highest rates in other member states
The highest shares of young people facing severe material and social deprivation were recorded in Romania at 15.1 per cent, Greece at 14.7 per cent and Bulgaria at 14.0 per cent.
Broader poverty risk remains higher for youth
Despite lower severe deprivation rates in some countries, young people across the European Union continued to face a higher risk of poverty or social exclusion than the general population.
In 2025, the at risk of poverty or social exclusion rate for people aged 15 to 29 reached 24.2 per cent across the bloc, 3.3 percentage points higher than the 20.9 per cent recorded for the total population.
