Cyprus approves €1 million solar water heating grant scheme

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ cabinet approved a €1 million grant scheme on Wednesday to support household installations and replacements of solar water heating systems, with subsidies of up to €900.

The programme aims to reduce household energy costs and promote the use of renewable energy, Energy Minister Michael Damianos said.

Eligibility and funding

The scheme will be administered by the Renewable Energy and Energy Saving Fund and will apply to integrated solar water heating systems that meet specified technical standards.

Only systems included on an approved equipment list will be eligible for funding. Installations must also be carried out by registered installers to ensure compliance with the scheme’s requirements and reduce the risk of unsuccessful applications.

Grant amounts

Eligible households in the general category will receive grants of €500.

The subsidy will rise to €900 for homes in mountainous areas. Vulnerable households will also be eligible for grants of €900.

Application deadline

Applications will remain open until December 20, 2026, or until 2,000 applications have been submitted, whichever comes first.

Damianos encouraged residents to review the scheme’s conditions and take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade their homes with more energy-efficient solar water heating systems.
