Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus approved 290 new positions for school assistants and chaperones for children with disabilities this week, along with increases in social benefits in five areas, President Nikos Christodoulides said on Saturday.
He said the two Cabinet decisions were of particular social importance and would substantially improve the daily lives of citizens.

Christodoulides said Cabinet approved a total of 290 new positions for school assistants and chaperones for children with disabilities.
Benefit increases in five areas
The increase in benefits applies to five different areas. These include a 50 per cent increase in the car purchase subsidy, a 33 per cent increase in the transport allowance, a 10 per cent increase in the personal assistance and home care allowance, and a doubling of the day centre participation allowance.
Additional beneficiaries by 2028
The measures also include the addition of almost 5,000 new beneficiaries by 2028.
