Cyprus construction material prices rose in May, driven by metals, wood and electromechanical products

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ construction material prices increased further in May 2026, according to the state statistical service Cystat, with metals, wood and electromechanical products among the main drivers. The Price Index of Construction Materials reached 122.07 units, up 1.16 per cent from the previous month and 2.62 per cent from May 2025.

Index developments

Cystat said the index is based on 2021 as the reference year, set at 100 units. For the period from January to May 2026, the overall index rose by 1.32 per cent compared with the corresponding period of 2025.

Category increases

According to Cystat, the largest annual increase among the main categories was recorded in metallic products, which rose by 4.31 per cent year on year.

Prices for wood products, insulation materials, chemicals and plastics increased by 3.49 per cent. Electromechanical products registered a rise of 2.97 per cent, while minerals increased by 2.03 per cent.

The category of mineral products posted a more modest increase of 0.22 per cent.

Wider context

The latest figures indicate a continuation of the moderate upward trend in construction costs in Cyprus in recent months, while construction cost growth across Europe has eased.

Analysis from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors showed that construction inflation across Europe has moved away from the sharp price surges of previous years to a period of more selective recovery.
