Limassol, Cyprus. The Cyprus Contemporary Dance Festival will begin its 27th edition at the Rialto Theatre, organized by the theatre in collaboration with the deputy ministry of culture. Performances will be held at the Rialto in Limassol and the Nicosia Municipal Theatre from May 30 to June 21.
Festival lineup
Dance companies from Cyprus, England, France, Greece, Belgium and Finland will present a range of contemporary choreographic works. The festival, which has operated since 1998, aims to bring productions from Cyprus and abroad to local audiences.
Selection process
International works were selected by the festival’s artistic advisor, choreographer Fotis Nikolaou, through an open call. Cypriot participation was chosen from works funded under the Support Programme for Creation and Research in Contemporary Dance, TERPSICHORE 2025.
Opening and international performances
The festival opens on May 30 with BLKDOG by the UK’s Botis Seva. The performance is described as a sharp, poetic commentary on how young people respond to a world that was not built for them and as a hip-hop dance performance marked by emotion.
On June 3, Hervé Koubi from France will present The Barbarian Nights, a piece rooted in the story of the Mediterranean basin.
Greek and Cypriot productions
The Greek performance Sirens by Ermira Goro is scheduled for June 10. The work takes the audience on a journey into desire and its social expression, with performers transforming on stage in a story of dreams and freedom.
The Cypriot production Ode by Elena Antoniou will be presented at the Rialto Theatre on June 13 and at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre on June 15. The work focuses on togetherness and female strength through gaze and movement.
Later performances
On June 18, Jan Martens from Belgium will present The Dog Days Are Over 2.0 at the Rialto Theatre. Martens and GRIP recreated the work in 2025 with a new cast. The performance features eight dancers in a demanding choreography that explores the boundary between art and entertainment.
