Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus dams stood at 14.1% of capacity on Friday, slightly higher than at the same time last year, the Water Development Department said on Saturday. Last year, dams were 26% full at this time.
Overall storage and inflow
As of Friday, the dams held a total of 41.1 billion cubic metres, having recorded an inflow of 19.2 billion since October 1.
Levels at major reservoirs
The island’s largest dam, Kouris, held 14.5 million m³, or 12.6% of capacity. Asprokremmos stood at 12.9%, with 6.8 million m³.
Evretos was 18.5% full, holding 4.4 million m³. Paphos’ Kannaviou reservoir was 16.6% full, with 17.1 million m³.
Kalavasos was the least filled, at 1.3 million cubic metres, or 7.9% of capacity.
Recent overflows
Despite low overall water levels, the Pomos and Klirou dams overflowed in recent days. In late January, the Kato Pyrgos dam in Tylliria overflowed after days of rain pushed it above full capacity.
