Cyprus deputy shipping ministry hosts educational day for students at Limassol maritime centre

Limassol, Cyprus. Cyprus’ Deputy Ministry of Shipping held an educational day on Tuesday for 95 students from lyceums and technical schools in Limassol and Paphos to introduce them to the shipping industry. The event took place at the Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Maritime Education Centre at Limassol Marina.

Third year of the initiative

Held for the third consecutive year in cooperation with the counselling and vocational education service of the ministry of education, sports and youth, the event aimed to give students a first-hand view of one of Cyprus’ key industries and the career opportunities it offers.

Overview of shipping and the blue economy

Students were introduced to shipping professions and future career prospects, and learned about the structure and operation of shipping companies. They also received an overview of modern branches of the blue economy as the maritime sector expands beyond traditional activities.

Practical workshops and simulators

A central part of the day was its practical component, with students taking part in experiential workshops using bridge and engine room simulators to gain a clearer sense of maritime working environments and technical requirements.

Partners and acknowledgements

The event was hosted at the Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Maritime Education Centre, and the deputy ministry thanked the company for making its training facilities available. The ministry also thanked long-standing partners and associates, including the Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC), the Cyprus Union of Shipowners (CUS), the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), and Cyprus’ maritime offices in Athens and the United Kingdom.

Broader outreach and minister’s remarks

The initiative is part of the deputy ministry’s efforts to strengthen maritime awareness among younger generations and encourage students to consider shipping careers. Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanolis referred to the event in a post after the workshop, thanking those involved and describing it as another successful opportunity for students to get to know the shipping sector at first hand.
