Cyprus digital book purchases rise in 2025 but remain below EU average, Eurostat data shows

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded 7.87% of internet users purchasing e-books or audiobooks in 2025, according to Eurostat, remaining below the European Union average despite growth from the previous year.


EU-wide increase in digital book purchases

The data covers EU residents who had used the internet in the three months prior to the survey. Across the European Union, 9.5% bought e-books or audiobooks in 2025, up from 7.3% in 2024.

Cyprus shows year-on-year growth

In Cyprus, the share of users purchasing e-books or audiobooks rose by 4 percentage points compared with 2024, indicating continued growth in digital adoption.

Differences across member states

Ireland recorded the highest share at 24.5%, followed by Denmark at 22.5% and Croatia at 21.0%. Hungary, Italy, Slovenia and Latvia posted shares below 5%.

Largest gains and declines

Croatia recorded the largest year-on-year increase in the EU, rising by 16 percentage points, followed by Greece at 7.2 percentage points and Germany at 3.7 percentage points. Declines were reported in Finland, down 4.8 percentage points, Portugal, down 1.6 percentage points, and Malta, down 0.1 percentage points.
