Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ electricity demand is expected to be fully covered throughout Friday, according to Transmission System Operator official Haris Zavallis. Available conventional generation was 1,188 MW in the morning and was expected to rise to 1,248 MW following the return of a Dhekelia unit.
Generation capacity and reserves
The Dhekelia unit, with a capacity of 60 MW, was expected to be reintegrated during the day after being taken out of operation on Thursday due to a problem being investigated by the EAC.
Zavallis said demand would be covered through reserves in the system regardless of whether the Dhekelia unit returned to service.
Expected demand peaks
The midday peak, expected between 2pm and 4pm, was estimated at 1,320 MW.
The evening peak, forecast from 7pm to 9.30pm, was expected to fluctuate around 1,065 MW.
