Nicosia, Cyprus. Total employment in Cyprus rose to 531,062 persons in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to the Labour Force Survey released by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat). The unemployment rate declined to 4% from 4.5% a year earlier.
Employment and labour force trends
Cystat said total employment represented 65.2% of the population in the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with 518,053 persons, or 64.3%, in the corresponding quarter of 2024.
Of the total, 509,773 persons were employed, pushing the employment rate to 62.6%, up from 494,600 persons and 61.4% a year earlier.
Unemployment levels
The number of unemployed persons fell to 21,289, bringing the unemployment rate down to 4% of the labour force from 4.5% in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Male unemployment stood at 3.8%, while female unemployment reached 4.2%.
Employment rates by gender and age
The employment rate rose to 67.6% for men and 57.9% for women.
For those aged 20-64, the employment rate climbed to 81.7%, up from 80.2% in the same quarter of 2024. Among those aged 55-64, the rate increased to 71.7% from 69.9% a year earlier.
Employment by sector
Most employed persons worked in services, accounting for 81.3%, followed by industry at 16.5% and agriculture at 2.2%.
A year earlier, the respective shares were 81.2% for services, 16.5% for industry and 2.3% for agriculture.
