Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ harmonised inflation rate rose in April 2026, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat), with energy and transport contributing to both annual and monthly increases.
HICP annual and monthly changes
The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) increased by 3.0 per cent between April 2025 and April 2026. It also rose by 2.2 per cent between March and April 2026.
Largest annual increases and declines
In annual terms, the largest price increases were recorded in recreation, sports and culture, up 6.8 per cent, and transport, up 6.7 per cent. The sharpest annual declines were in clothing and footwear, down 5.4 per cent, and information and communication, down 2.2 per cent.
Month-on-month movements
On a month-on-month basis, transport recorded the biggest increase, rising by 9.6 per cent, followed by clothing and footwear, up 5.3 per cent.
Energy as a key contributor
Across broader economic categories, energy posted the largest increases, rising by 8.5 per cent year-on-year and by 7.5 per cent compared with March 2026.
Drivers highlighted by the latest figures
Cystat’s figures pointed to continued pressure from energy-related costs, while also indicating volatility in transport prices. The increase in recreation, sports and culture prices was linked to demand in discretionary spending categories, while the decline in clothing and footwear prices was attributed to seasonal adjustments and competitive pricing in the retail sector.
