Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded a homeownership rate of 69.4% in 2024, with 30.6% of residents renting, according to Eurostat figures released on Thursday. The rate was slightly above the EU average of 68% ownership and 32% renting.

Highest ownership rates in eastern member states
Romania recorded the highest homeownership rate at 94%, followed by Slovakia at 93% and Hungary at 92%.
Countries where renting is more common
Germany recorded 53% of the population living as tenants, followed by Austria at 46% and Denmark at 39%.
