Limassol, Cyprus. The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) held a conference on private clients and wealth management at the Four Seasons hotel in Limassol on Thursday. On the same day, parliament unanimously voted to stop writing off surplus electricity generated by household solar panel systems.
Keve conference on private wealth management
Keve’s Private Clients in the Changing World Where East Meets West conference brought together professionals and experts in private wealth management from around the world.
The chamber said the event positioned Cyprus at the centre of discussions on the future of wealth management and served as a platform for dialogue on rapid global developments shaping private wealth. Topics included geopolitical shifts, increasing regulatory demands, generational transitions, and the impact of technology and digital assets.
Keve president Stavros Stavrou said the conference was a targeted initiative bringing together leading professionals from different jurisdictions and sectors, aimed at achieving a meaningful exchange of views on the future of wealth management.
Parliament vote on surplus household solar electricity
Parliament unanimously approved changes ensuring surplus electricity generated by household solar panel systems will no longer be written off.
The decision partially accepted a referral by President Nikos Christodoulides regarding amendments to the law on promoting renewable energy sources. MPs modified provisions to address concerns over constitutionality and separation of powers.
Under the approved framework, excess energy produced by households will not be deleted and will instead be retained until the cabinet sets out a compensation mechanism.
House energy committee chair and Disy MP Kyriakos Hadjiyiannis said the committee opted for partial acceptance of the referral, adding that the main change is that surplus energy produced by household photovoltaics will not be deleted until the council of ministers decides.
What do you think the cabinet’s compensation mechanism for surplus household solar energy should include?
