Cyprus household costs remained below EU average in 2025, Eurostat data showed

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded household final consumption expenditure prices at 89.2 per cent of the European Union average in 2025, according to Eurostat. The figures placed the country below the bloc’s average amid wide differences in consumer prices across member states.


Price levels across the European Union

Eurostat said consumer price levels for household final consumption expenditure across the European Union ranged from 140 per cent of the average to 63 per cent.

Denmark recorded the highest price levels at 140 per cent of the European Union average, followed by Ireland at 136 per cent and Luxembourg at 132 per cent. The lowest price levels were recorded in Bulgaria at 63 per cent, Romania at 65 per cent and Poland at 73 per cent.

Cyprus below the bloc average

Cyprus, with a price level index of 89.2 per cent of the European Union average, ranked as a more affordable location than many northern European countries. The data highlighted differences in the cost of living across the bloc.

Housing and food categories

Housing costs, the largest household expenditure category in the European Union, showed the widest variation among member states. They ranged from 190 per cent of the European Union average in Ireland to 41 per cent in Bulgaria.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages, the second-largest component of household budgets, were the most stable category across member states.
