Cyprus inaugurates €6.5 million 24-hour fire service operations coordination centre

Nicosia, Cyprus. The fire service on Tuesday inaugurated a new 24-hour operations coordination centre with a total budget of €6.5 million. President Nikos Christodoulides said the facility is aimed at meeting increased demands linked to climate and other risks.

Inauguration and purpose

Christodoulides said the climate crisis, extreme weather events, technological risks and new forms of threats create an environment of increased demands and multi-level challenges. He described the centre as a substantial investment in citizen safety and Cyprus’ operational readiness.

Prevention, preparedness and response

The president said the centre plays a crucial role in prevention and preparation while speeding up response mechanisms. He added that it is a modern tool that changes how the fire service coordinates and executes its operations.

Regional cooperation and citizen security

Christodoulides said the centre strengthens regional collaboration and joint readiness for natural catastrophes, calling it a critical bulwark against challenges in the region. He said citizen security is a non-negotiable daily responsibility of the state and of all.

What do you think this new coordination centre could change about emergency response in Cyprus?
