Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ industrial production index rose 4.7% year on year in March, according to the state statistical service, Cystat. The index reached 116.7 units, with 2021 as the base year set at 100 units.
First-quarter performance
The stronger March result lifted the cumulative index for the first quarter of 2026, which increased by 1.5% compared with the same period of the previous year.
Sector movements
Manufacturing increased by 2.8% compared with March 2025. Electricity supply recorded the largest gain, rising by 19.0%, while mining and quarrying increased by 9.2%.
Water supply and materials recovery also contributed to the overall rise, posting an annual increase of 3.9%.
Manufacturing details
Within manufacturing, basic metals and fabricated metal products recorded the strongest growth, up 8.5% year on year.
Production of rubber and plastic products increased by 7.1%, while other non-metallic mineral products rose by 4.5%. Food products, beverages and tobacco products increased by 3.5%.
Areas of decline
Downward pressure came from the manufacturing of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment, which fell by 4.8%.
