Cyprus inflation remains subdued in December 2025 as HICP rises 0.1% year-on-year

Nicosia, Cyprus. Inflation in Cyprus remained subdued in December 2025, with the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) showing marginal annual growth and a monthly decline, according to the state statistical service Cystat. Consumer prices rose 0.1% year-on-year and fell 0.4% month-on-month.


HICP change in December and across 2025

Cystat said the HICP increased by 0.8% over the January-December 2025 period compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.

Annual category movements

On an annual basis, the largest increases were recorded in recreation and culture, up 5.1%, and in restaurants and hotels, up 4.4%. The sharpest declines were in clothing and footwear, down 7.9%, and in housing, water supply, electricity and gas, down 3.2% compared with December 2024.

Monthly category movements

Comparing December 2025 with November 2025, the most notable changes were in transport, down 1.7%, and restaurants and hotels, down 0.9%.

Full-year movements by category

Across 2025 compared with the previous year, clothing and footwear declined by 6.4%, while recreation and culture increased by 6.2% and restaurants and hotels rose by 5.2%.

Economic classification changes

From an economic classification perspective, the largest annual change compared with December 2024 was in energy, which fell by 5.4%. The largest monthly change compared with November 2025 was recorded in services, down 0.8%.

Overall inflation picture

Cystat data for December indicated that price increases were concentrated in consumer-facing services such as leisure and hospitality, while goods-related categories and energy continued to dampen overall inflation.
