Cyprus joins Global Money Week 2026 with Central Bank coordinating national campaign

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus is taking part in Global Money Week 2026, an OECD-backed initiative aimed at strengthening financial literacy among children and young people. The campaign runs from March 16 to 22.

National coordination and partners

The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) said it is coordinating the campaign at national level in cooperation with the education ministry, the finance ministry, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), and other institutional bodies, academic organisations, non-governmental groups and professional associations.

Aims of the initiative

According to the CBC, the initiative is designed to help young people develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to make informed and responsible financial decisions, while laying the groundwork for future financial well-being.

The CBC added that financial literacy helps young people build confidence, develop healthy financial habits, avoid risks and shape a path towards long-term financial balance and prosperity.

2026 theme and campaign message

This year’s campaign encourages children and young people to speak more openly about money, exchange experiences, seek reliable information and ask the right questions to manage finances more effectively.

Under the theme ‘Talking, Asking and Deciding Smartly about our Money’, also presented as ‘Smart Money Talks’, the 2026 edition aims to challenge the idea that personal finance is a difficult or taboo subject.

The CBC said many young people are reluctant to seek advice or raise questions about financial matters, often because they are unsure where to turn.

Planned activities and events

Participating bodies will organise information drives, educational screenings, presentations, visits and discussions with young people, workshops, seminars, conferences, the distribution of informational material, and the screening of educational videos focused on financial literacy.

The programme also includes open seminars and lectures for the public, a national competition to select the team that will represent Cyprus at the 2026 International Economic Olympiad, a podcast, the publication of training guides, and a knowledge quiz aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of financial literacy for individuals, families and society.
