Nicosia, Cyprus. Police arrested eight people on various charges during overnight operations across Cyprus, according to a police statement. Officers also conducted large-scale traffic and premises checks.
Arrests and inspections
Police said eight people were arrested on charges including theft, malicious damage and drink driving. Officers inspected 23 premises, which resulted in two reports.
Vehicle checks and traffic complaints
During the operations, police stopped 595 vehicles and checked a total of 796 drivers and passengers. Traffic enforcement led to 314 complaints for various violations, with speeding accounting for the majority, including 188 drivers ticketed for exceeding the speed limit.
Alcohol and drug-driving tests
Police carried out 188 alcohol tests and found 19 drivers over the legal limit. Officers also conducted 45 drug-driving tests, with 15 drivers testing positive.
Vehicles impounded
Six vehicles were impounded as part of the investigations.
