Nicosia, Cyprus. Police arrested eight people during nationwide overnight prevention operations on Thursday, while issuing 295 traffic fines for various offences. The operations were part of an intensified island-wide police presence aimed at preventing serious crime, maintaining public order and increasing public security.
Overnight operations across Cyprus
In a statement on Friday, police said they carried out organised patrols in key urban areas across the island overnight as part of targeted prevention measures.

Arrests and inspections
According to police, eight people were arrested for a range of offences, including theft by employee, illegal stay in Cyprus, carrying a knife, unlawful possession of drugs and assaulting a police officer.
Officers stopped and checked 629 drivers and 131 passengers during the night. They also inspected 44 premises as part of efforts to tackle criminal activity, resulting in six reports of offences.
Traffic violations recorded
Police said 295 traffic violations were recorded during road policing checks, while six cases involving suspected traffic offences remain under investigation.
Among the violations recorded were 83 cases of speeding. Police also impounded four vehicles as part of their investigations.
A total of 95 alcohol tests were carried out, resulting in three drivers being reported for drink-driving offences.
Operations to continue
Police said such operations continue on a daily basis, involving increased police presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action to prevent and suppress crime, protect the public and maintain public order.
