Nicosia, Cyprus. Police arrested eight people across Cyprus overnight for offences including assault and illegal stay in the Republic during preventive operations that also resulted in 305 traffic violations.
The operations targeted serious crime prevention, public order and public safety, police said in a statement on Tuesday.
Checks and inspections
Officers conducted organised patrols at key locations in urban areas across the island. During the operation, police stopped 473 vehicles and checked 617 drivers and passengers.
Police also inspected 44 premises, with one establishment reported for an offence.
Traffic enforcement
Traffic checks resulted in 305 reports for road traffic offences, including 119 speeding violations.
Officers carried out 120 alcohol tests, two of which were positive. Four preliminary drug tests were also conducted, with one positive result.
Six vehicles were impounded during the operation.
Further operations
Police said similar operations would continue daily, involving increased presence, targeted checks and rapid intervention to prevent crime, protect the public and maintain public order.
